Section 6. Qualification for Membership: Post-Graduate Members
The current bylaws states “The candidate for Post-Graduate Member must be a diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery or its equivalent as determined by the Council.” The ABOHNS has revamped its oral exam to be based on real cases from a candidate’s independent post-residency practice collected over a 9-month period, which means a candidate won’t be board-certified until at least 2-3 years out of training.
The proposed bylaws revision will state “The candidate for Post-Graduate Member must be board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery or its equivalent as determined by the Council”. This will preclude a delay in eligibility for PGM.
